Think sexy, provocative, controversial, practical, ultra-feminine, the ultimate accessory for firing up men’s minds and you’ve got a small notion of everything that is associated with a thong.
Let’s face it we live in a thong culture. Sheer fabrics, tight-fitting clothes and low-slang jeans have made it imperative to accessorise with underwear that matches everything one expects of today’s happening woman: strong, tough, feminine and sexy.
Sassy in the way she dresses, fully aware of her own sexual allure and still able to change a plug at the end of the day the thong-wearing woman of today is a cross between Barbie and Barbarella.
The thong first gained popularity in Brazil in the 1980s as a swimsuit style. By the 1990s, thong underwear became popular and today is one of the fastest selling styles.
So the question has to be, when you decide to buy a thong which style should you go for?
It really depends on the clothes you’ll wear, the occasion and your own personal taste. High riding thongs deigned to sit, high on the hips flatter the fuller figure and, when coupled with low-slang, hip-hugging clothes, are designed to be seen.
If you want to create a totally pantyless look a lace thong or even one which dissolves in just a few bits of string are the perfect item. They can be worn with the tightest clothes, matched with lycra-wear for the gym and still remain hidden from even the most persistent gaze.
Perfect for all seasons thongs can be made out of lace, silk, satin, cotton and even leather. Comfortable to wear, so light that they can almost be forgotten they are also the ultimate accessory in a woman’s arsenal.
It takes little more than the hint of a thong to make even the most tame of encounters with your partner sizzle. If you want to add a little snap, crackle and pop to your relationship go for black lace or even the colour-matched range offered by La Perla, so a pink dress slips off to reveal matching colour underwear, a red dress is complimented by a matching colour thong and bra and so on.
If you are buying a thong it’s always best to work to your budget. Thongs for everyday wear need not be at the top end of the price market. Cotton which is sturdy, comfortable, easily colour-matched and a joy to wear is perfect on this front. Lace and leather, silk and satin are for those occasions when what you wear under your clothes is as important as the clothes you have been wearing – for those ones spend to the top of your range. Your money buys a better made thong each time, comfortable against your skin and capable of surviving more than one wash in your washing machine. After all, you want a thong to last more than a day and those which become your favourite you want to keep as long as possible.
