Some of the best fashion finds are tried and true staples like the tank top, fantastically practical, affordable and one of the biggest trends this summer.
Just because something is a staple item in the fashion world needn't mean it's boring. Tank tops have seen a resurgence with everyone from Paris Hilton to Hilary Duff wearing them as both day and evening wear.
Printed tanks are bigger than ever, with even designers like Karen Walker including them in their latest collections. A printed tank is a great way to invest in a trend without having to buy an expensive item which may not be so popular next season.
Fruit, plants and animal prints are a good idea, as well as vintage inspired prints. Or why not just choose a print that expresses who you are as a person?
This season there is a huge variety of embellished and embroidered tanks available also. Lace and embroidery add interest to a tank and lifts the look, meaning it can be worn both casually paired back with summer shorts or under a fitted blazer or suit for evening and work wear.
Wear a plain black tank with dark denim, heels and diamante jewellery for a simple yet sexy look. Or copy the cinched waist look that has been on the catwalk's of Chanel and Prada by wearing your long line tank with a thin belt.
Are tanks daywear, evening wear, underwear? You decide. The charm of the tank is that it’s versatile. The sexy College-girl look immortalized by practically every slasher horror movie involves a girl, some type of boy shorts and a tank in that exact same order.
Perfect for that evening in when you don’t want to wrap yourself up in a robe and floating around in a lace top is a little pointless without an audience. Ideal for bedwear they add sex appeal and practicality in a single, easy to care for, garment.
The lingerie houses have caught on to the trend and are now producing tanks that are more than just tanks. Within their simple design they sometimes have fine lace trim at the shoulder straps, may have intricate designs worked into the ribbed-look ones and they come in more materials than just plain cotton.
There are even leather tank tops with attractive lace-up fronts. Mix and match them with a skirt, jeans, shorts, wear an unbuttoned shirt over them and you’re on your way to create a look that’s personal to you.
Fashion needn't be complicated or expensive with tank tops being so simple and affordable the choices are endless, and the ways to wear them only limited by your imagination.
