Briefs was one of those words that when applied to women’s underwear seemed to go against its meaning. Briefs, traditionally have been anything but and they are, compared to let’s say a thong, quite large.
But that doesn’t mean that they cannot be sexy, should not be part of your wardrobe and cannot be comfortable.
There are always moments in a woman’s life, that a little extra tummy control, added comfort and a softer, rounded look under your clothes is not a bad thing to achieve.
This is where briefs come into play.
Perfect for the time of the month when you really don’t want to have to battle with thongs and ideal for full length dresses that fall away at the hips, briefs can help achieve a totally seamless look with the added attraction of smoothing bumps.
Go for briefs cut high on the hip if you are wearing denim and briefs that go down to the thigh if it’s a full dress that falls from the hips.
A variation of the brief that’s relatively new to the scene are boy shorts. Boy shorts have a lower-riding waistline with legs that usually rest just above the thigh in front. They offer full or near full coverage in the rear, depending on what style you choose, and they're considered extremely comfortable. Despite the full back, many find these shorty shorts even sexier than thong underwear.
Boy shorts are particularly flattering for women with short torsos — they make the middle area look longer, since they sit low on the hips.
They are a good alternative for women who want to disguise their hip and upper thigh area without wearing full briefs.
They are the ideal style for anyone wearing low-slung pants or short skirts.
Hipsters: This style is an even shorter version of boy shorts that cuts off well above the thigh.
French knickers: These are similar to boy shorts, except they're looser around the leg.
Briefs are perfect for the first few weeks after maternity when you really need extra control. Cotton is perfect for keeping you cool and dry even during the hot summer months. For cooler weather experiment with microfibre or polyester mixes for a more lightweight fabric and a sleeker look.
